Some would say that their quality of soccer was not up to the task but this is not of much importance now that they won the World Cup. France are the 2018 World Cup winners even though Croatia dominated the larger part of the match. If you watched the game, you might have noticed that France were playing like a not so experienced team compared to Croatia.

In their World Cup history, this was the second win for France. The last win was in 1998. They portrayed great teamwork and we believe this was the ultimate reason for their win. The individual qualities of the players also did them justice during the game play.

Why they Won ?

One of their teamwork effort was seen through Griezmann and Giroud. There were other similar collaborations in the gameplay and this contributed to their overall win. Giroud and Griezmann’s team play was the best definition of large and little striker partnership. Giroud is a great fighter with the defenders and he is good with headers and always finds a way to get them to Griezmann’s way. This is a clear indication that he knows how to get the ball out wide to other players in the field.

With this kind of teamwork, it is clear that France deserved their win and that they mastered their strategy well and the reason they have has 5 wins and one draw throughout their World Cup Journey to the finals.

Journey to the finals

This was the third time for France to make it to the finals. The first time was in 1998 when they won the world cup after beating Brazil. The second time was in 2006 when they finished as runners up after a loss against Italy and this was in penalty shootouts. In the group stages. They won all their matches apart from the one they played against Denmark which ended up in a draw.

Their first match between Australia was successful and they won with a score of 2-1. The second match was with Peru and they also won with a goal from Mbappe and the final score was 1-0. Their third match was against Denmark and this is the one that ended in a draw with a 1-1 score. This was a success for them as it marked the end of the group stages where they didn’t have even a single loss.

In the round of 16 they met with Argentina and they beat them with a final score of 4-3. This was the game that booked them for the semis. They semi-final game was against Uruguay and they managed to beat them with a score of 2-0. This win game them a win to the quarter finals for the sixth time.

At the quarter finals against Belgium was not an easy time for them. But they later learnt Belgium’s strategy and won the game which was a ticket to the finals against Croatia. Their victory in the finals started when Mandzukic made an own goal through a header. This made Mandzukic the first player to score an own goal in the World Cup final. France also made history by scoring four goals in the final match. The last time this happened was in 1970 when Brazil played against Italy. France sealed the win with a final score of 4-2.
